Made-to-measure rubber membranes: types and materials

Membranes play an essential role in the proofing of spaces destined for fluids or freely moving substances. Their characteristic flexible and resistant diaphragm-shaped design allows for two areas of variable volume and pressure to be separated.

Experience gained in the widest-ranging sectors of application allows GB technicians to create membranes to design in rubber and rubberised fabric, as well as in other materials compliant with regulations and with the purpose of these essential components.

By assisting you in your projects, we are in a position to create personalised solutions and innovative compounds that perfectly respond to your industrial demands.

Why use rubber membranes?

There are a number of applications for membranes that offer significant advantages: They are easy to install.

  • They always guarantee optimal performance.
  • They guarantee an extremely tight seal.
  • They are subject to low elastic stretching.
  • They are highly resistant to mechanical stress.
  • They are not subject to sliding friction or first detachment.
  • They do not require lubrication.
  • They offer extreme resistance to pressure.
  • They guarantee resistance to chemical fluids.

The properties of individual membranes depend on the choice of materials used for production, the shape, the design and the manufacturing processes applied.

Applications for made-to-measure rubber membranes

Due to their exceptionally particular features, membranes find valid applications in a multitude of sectors such as mechanics, agriculture, industry and healthcare. Their purpose is to provide an optimal seal and render the equipment they are installed in as resistant and durable as possible.

The main areas of application include:

  • pressure regulators.
  • gas, methane and LPG systems.
  • dosing pumps.
  • safety, positioning and pneumatic valves.
  • domestic hot-water pressure regulators.
  •
  • flow controllers.
  •
  • pneumatic switches.
  • carburettor accelerator pumps.
  • pneumatic servo-elements.

What materials for rubber membranes?

The material used to construct membranes is an essential factor that defines their quality and performance. This is why GB technicians pay particular attention to studying the best raw materials, in order to manufacture components of optimal quality.

Research into innovative alternatives, as well as cutting-edge injection systems, allow us to obtain rubber membranes of a thickness of up to 0.2 mm. With our internal technological laboratory and partnerships with qualified external laboratories, we can develop materials for rubber moulding that always respond to your demands and comply with current regulations applicable to your specific sector.

We supply membranes made with a range of compounds, according to the field of application and the destined use of the component.

Elastomer membranes

Elastomers are either natural or synthetic substances that offer the chemical and physical properties of natural rubber. These substances are generally considered as rubbers, which can withstand elastic deformation and stretching, and return to their original form when at rest.

We work, in particular, with:

  • EPDM
  • FVMQ
  • FKM
  • NR
  • CR
  • NBR-PVC
  • HNBR
  • NBR
  • ACM
  • AU
  • SBR
  • VMQ

Membranes in polyethylene and thermoplastic materials

Thermoplastic materials offer interesting characteristics, such as becoming malleable when heated and reacquiring their rigidity once cooled. This means that they are suitable for being liquefied and modelled repeatedly without ever deteriorating or wearing out.

Membranes in reinforced materials

We also offer an extensive catalogue of materials overmoulded with high-tech, metal or nylon fibres, as well as rubberised cotton fabrics. Unlike those made exclusively with rubber, membranes reinforced with fabric inserts can offer better performance under high pressure and mechanical stress, extremely limited elastic deformity and a more secure seal in the presence of hazardous fluids.

GB Group: efficiency, responsibility and sustainability

Our extensive experience in the sector, as well as our ability to manufacture components to design has allowed us to become a leader for the design and production of natural and synthetic rubber membranes.

Our machine inventory includes injection, compression and injection-compression technologies that can apply a closing force of up to 650 tons. The technical skills of our collaborators allow us to mould items by design of any shape and size (up to a maximum diameter of 1200 mm). Furthermore, the innovative equipment in our laboratories guarantee accurate pre- and post-production checks, allowing us to ensure that both the raw materials used and the end products comply with the order specifications as well as national and international quality standards.

We work with professionalism on your projects, guaranteeing precise, efficient and punctual consignments. Furthermore, we are committed to transforming the principles of responsible business into practical actions, and to implementing processes that ensure the lowest possible environmental impact and the utmost respect for the planet (for example, satisfying our energy demands with efficient photovoltaic systems).

We do not merely respect minimum standards for ecological sustainability; we actively promote a quality culture that involves our collaborators, partners, suppliers and the entire community in which we operate.

We can help you achieve your productivity goals with a consolidated production process that begins with design and continues on to after-sales support, with a highly collaborative and transparent approach.
